(Chicago) – Shopping is my therapy.  It doesn’t matter whether I actually buy things or just window shop but most of the time I end up purchasing things I really don’t need. I don’t care. With all the stress I get from work or other personal stuffs, walking around leisurely in malls or supermarkets brings that much-needed relief. That’s why most of my weekends; I drive around with some friends from place to place, check some shops and peruse whatever is on sale.

Supermarket is one of my favorite destinations. Nothing feels better than being surrounded with food. Lots of food, glorious food! (Sounds familiar? 🙂 ) I buy my meat in one butcher shop in West Loop, my fruits/vegetables in a Mexican produce store in Andersonville, my stockable food items in Costco, my regular pantry filling in Dominick’s in Edgewater (coz I like the aisle layout and lighting here) and my oops-I-forgot-something-and-I-need-it-now stuffs in Jewel which is a block away from my place.  This is my regular grocery shopping route. Although the stores are far from each other, I get the cheapest, freshest and best items in these places.

Discovering a new and great supermar

ket is an ecstasy. While driving around the suburbs a few weekends ago, we happened to pass by a huge supermarket located in a nondescript strip mall.  My friend knew it was a Korean supermarket and that picqued my interest since I’ve been getting addicted to anything-Korean nowadays, from movies to telenovelas to restaurants. So we decided to check the place out.

This grocery store is a vision! Everything looks excitingly foreign to me from the fresh fruits to anything on the shelves. They are mostly Korean products but there are many other Asians stuffs, including Filipino items. Also, there are a few food stalls serving authentic Korean dishes.  I have not tried any of them yet since I just came from dinner that night.  But this will be the agenda on my next visit.  There are also fruits native to Korea, even the apples are Korean (sonya apples)  🙂 . And I just found the freshest cut of tuna and salmon in their seafood section.

I think this place will the new stop in my grocery route. I love it!
