(Chicago) – Steak, chicken and pork are not cheap in mainstream supermarkets everywhere. For carnivores, including me, eating meat regularly can put a dent in your wallet; hence, started my search for cheaper place to get my protein supply. And all roads led me to Peoria Butcher Shop.

How cheaper could it get if you go straight to where the meats are packaged right after butchering. No middle man, no marketing cost and no fancy schmancy stores; just undisguised fresh meat in front of your eyes. You get inside, put some plastic gloves on and grab whatever meat you desire from picnic ham, ribs, steak of all sorts, lamb, chicken, oxtail, beef tongu

e, sausages and the list goes on. And all the prices are significantly lower compared to your neighborhood grocery store.

Be warned: The place is not pretty. It might appear disgusting to some people, especially to vegetarians. But to many foodies, this place is a meat nirvana. Even the Food Network show, Chefs vs City, featured this place in one of their episodes.

Don’t expect the place to smell like lavender.  This is not Whole Foods. This is a meat market, for real.
