Did you know that “puso” in Cebu doesn’t mean “heart”?
When most Filipinos hear the word puso, they think of the Filipino word for heart. But in Cebu, puso has a completely different meaning. Here, puso is rice wrapped in woven coconut leaves and boiled until cooked. The leaf wrapping gives the rice its unique shape and makes it easy to carry. It is the perfect partner for Cebu’s famous lechon and grilled seafood.
That is exactly why Puso Village got its name. It celebrates Cebu’s love for good food, especially the iconic puso rice that locals enjoy with almost every meal.
When we visited Puso Village in Cebu, we quickly realized this is much more than a food court. It is a place where families gather, tourists discover local flavors, and everyone leaves with a full stomach and a smile.

What is Puso Village?
Located in Mandaue City, Cebu, Puso Village is one of the newest and most talked-about food destinations in the province. It brings together many local food vendors in one large open-air dining area, making it easy to sample many of Cebu’s best dishes in one visit.
One thing you will notice right away is the relaxed atmosphere. There are rows of food stalls, plenty of seating, live entertainment on some evenings, and the smell of grilled meats and seafood filling the air.
Just across from Puso Village stands a gigantic Sto. Niño statue. It is impossible to miss and has quickly become another popular landmark in the area. Many visitors stop to take photos before or after enjoying their meal.
If you want to experience the flavors of Cebu without driving all over the city, Puso Village is a great place to start.

The Star of the Show: Cebu Lechon
No trip to Cebu is complete without trying Cebu lechon.
People from all over the Philippines travel here just to eat it. Even world-famous chef and travel host Anthony Bourdain called Cebu lechon “the best pig ever.” That single comment introduced Cebu lechon to food lovers around the world.

So what makes it so special?
Unlike many roasted pigs that rely on thick sauces, Cebu lechon is already packed with flavor inside. The pig is stuffed with herbs, garlic, onions, lemongrass, scallions, and local spices before it is slowly roasted over charcoal for several hours.
The result is amazing.
The skin becomes thin, crispy, and crackly. Underneath is juicy, flavorful meat that does not need gravy or sauce. Every bite is rich, savory, and perfectly seasoned.
If it is your first time eating lechon, start with a piece that has both crispy skin and tender meat. Many locals will tell you the skin is the best part. One bite and you will understand why people line up for it every day.
After tasting Cebu lechon, it is easy to see why many people say it is different from any other roast pork in the world.

Seafood That Was Swimming Just Hours Earlier
If lechon is the king of Puso Village, then the seafood is definitely close behind.
One thing that impressed us was how incredibly fresh everything was. Many of the seafood items were caught earlier that same morning. You can really taste the difference.
The choices seemed endless.

There were fresh crabs, giant tuna panga (tuna jaw), sweet lobsters, juicy oysters, tender mussels, fresh clams, different kinds of shellfish, shrimp, squid, and many more local seafood favorites.
The tuna panga was especially impressive. It was large, meaty, and packed with flavor. Once grilled over charcoal, it became smoky, juicy, and incredibly satisfying.
The oysters were plump and fresh. The mussels and clams were sweet and tender. The crabs were full of rich, delicate meat.
Walking through the seafood stalls felt like visiting a fresh seafood market where everything was ready to be cooked exactly the way you wanted.
For seafood lovers, this alone makes Puso Village worth the visit.

The Sweet Taste of Philippine Mangoes
After enjoying all that savory food, it is time for dessert.
And in Cebu, dessert often starts with one thing.
Philippine mangoes.

Many people believe Philippine mangoes are the best mangoes in the world. They are known for being incredibly sweet, smooth, juicy, and almost free of fiber.
One bite explains why they are famous around the globe.
Cebu has easy access to fresh mangoes throughout the year because the Philippines is one of the world’s top mango-producing countries. Fresh fruit arrives daily, making it easy to enjoy mangoes at their peak.
One of our favorite treats was the fresh mango shake. It was cold, creamy, refreshing, and naturally sweet.

Many vendors also serve mango shakes blended with pandan, giving the drink a wonderful aroma and a unique tropical flavor.
Another surprise was the mango sticky pandan rice.
It takes inspiration from Thailand’s famous mango sticky rice but adds a Filipino twist with fragrant pandan. The combination of sweet mangoes, creamy sticky rice, and pandan made it one of our favorite desserts of the day. We honestly enjoyed it even more than the original Thai version.
It was the perfect way to end a wonderful meal.
