Getting Lost in H-mart Again

(Chicago) – Wandering inside a grocery store has been therapeutic for me. I enjoy traversing every aisle and browsing interesting food stuffs neatly arranged in high shelf or colorful fresh produce misted every 10 minutes. I have been to as many Mexican carnitas, butcher shops, farmer’s markets, local specialty food shops and mainstream groceries, as I can.  But my latest obsession is this Korean grocery, H-mart,  in the Chicago suburb of Niles.

I know I published a few posts about H-mart already. I can’t get enough of it. Last Sunday, I found myself roaming leisurely in this Asian food mecca again and letting myself get fascinated by the food that made Korea a culinary powerhouse. I don’t even have to buy to get a taste of what they sell. There are more than 10 tiny stalls offering free tasting. And I tell you, the bites are delicious and big enough to make me regret why I ate lunch before going there.

I didn’t know that there can this much varieties of pickled vegetable– still not a fan. But the long table of pickles is pretty to look at.

Live kimchi making!  I love watching them, even though I don’t eat kimchi.

The master of tuna mesmerized me with his sharp and precise butchering skills. Wow, tuna at its freshest.

This bakery has a long table of bread and pastry free samples. I love the Yogurt Bubble Tea– lesser calories but of course, it is not free.

Getting lost here is a pleasurable wandering.  Actually, I feel so much at home here and I will definitely be back again soon.
