(San Diego) –  My last meal in San Diego ended deliciously.  My flight was later in the afternoon and I wanted to have a memorable lunch somehow. So my friend and I walked 7 blocks to downtown area to look for some good lunch places.  We forgot what day it was and the nicest of the restaurants are closed on Mondays. A little disappointed, we went back to the hotel and strolled around the humongous Grand Hyatt complex.  At the back of the hotel, facing the serene harbour, there is a seafood restaurant called Sally’s. Will this place give me the memorable lunch that I was hoping for?

Dragon Roll –  shrimp tempura, cucumber, and tobiko on the inside, rice, freshwater eel, and avocado on the outside, topped with sweet soy and roasted sesame

Whole Wheat Linguini – oregano and thyme roasted shrimp, cherry tomatoes, asparagus, red bell pepper, spinach, fresh parmesan and olive oil

Fish and Chips – sea bass, steak fries, malt vinegar, tartar and spicy tamarind sauces

Our waiter claims that Sally’s serves the best fish and chips in town; I concur. Even the chatty ladies (who lunch) on the next table affirm the claim. The fish is fresh – both flaky and juicy – while the crusty exterior is well seasoned. The spicy tamarind sauce is interestingly good but I stick to the classic malt vinegar. The linguini and sushi taste undoubtedly fresh.

I shouldn’t have looked and walked too far to find the best lunch that I was craving for. It was just right there in my own backyard (while I was staying at Hyatt 🙂 ).
